"A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse of the public treasury. From that time on the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury, with the results that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, always followed by a dictatorship....

The average age of the world's greatest civilizations has been two hundred years.

These nations have progressed through this sequence:
from bondage to spiritual faith;
from spiritual faith to great courage;
from great courage to liberty;
from liberty to abundance;
from abundance to selfishness;
from selfishness to complacency;
from complacency to apathy;
from apathy to dependence;
from dependency back again to bondage."

My computer likes to fuck with my head:

I hadn't even touched the battery since I got my computer. The battery is the one it came with, of course it's a Sony, you dolt. I hadn't taken it out, wiggled it or anything. I was just minding my own business when that popped up, and it forced me to click "ok" which put the computer into hibernate. I took out the battery, put it back in, and it was fine. Gr.

Uh, yeah, if my computer really had 30 hours with only 8% left, I'd love it forever. But no, that's not the case. This was actually a while ago, but when it was fully charged, it said something like 10%. The battery life in reality was normal (about 2-3 hrs) but it was frustrating because I didnt know how much I really had left.
