Now my computer won't start at all. I'm using a friend's right now.

I found a linux cd that I am able to run, and I'm hoping to use that to transfer some files to my external hard drive. However, I am clueless about linux. This is where you come in.

If you think you can talk me through this process and help me save my files, I will be eternally grateful. Call me at 604.992.9420 because I dont know how often I'll be able to check replies. Here's a thought: I have LNX-BBC which ogredrew tried to help me with (thanks again!) but we couldn't access the external drive. What if I used a different version of Linux and tried with that? I'm using a friend's computer right now and could burn a cd with it to use on my computer. Which version should I use? Which would be easiest to navigate to move my files?
