Listens: Face To Face - The New Way

The RIAA recently admitted something that puts them in a tight spot. While they've been blathering about how CD sales have been down since the emergence of Napster, many groups have pointed out that, in that same period, the economy went into a slump. But now the real truth comes out.

In summary: In the period that the RIAA cited, from 1999 to 2001, the number of albums released per year decreased... from 38,000 in 1999 to 27,000 in 2001. That's a decrease of 25 percent. And yet the sales of CDs have dropped only 10.3 percent. That means that per-album sales have actually increased over the past few years. Especially amazing in the face of an economic downturn.
